Shetland Reel Gin- Original

The Shetland Distillery Company was formed in 2013 to produce the highest quality distilled spirits on the most northerly inhabited island in the UK, Unst, Shetland.

The first distilled spirit to be produced on Shetland, Shetland Reel Gin Original was first produced on 31st October 2014. It contains 9 botanicals including locally grown applemint and with a clean fresh flavour is a prefect example of a classic London Dry gin, albeit with a Shetland Twist.

The initial palate is juniper, mixed spice, sweetness with a citrus tang and a refreshing hint of mint at the end.

It is an award winning gin with sales in Asia, North America, Africa and Europe.

Shetland Reel Gin - Ocean Sent

Ocean Sent is our ode to the rich maritime history of Shetlanders and the Shetland Islands. Our second core gin after Original and bottled at 49% abv. Launched in October 2015.

Our Distillery team is trained to sustainably harvest bladderwrack seaweed from around the coastline of Unst which gives it a unique flavour profile.

The strong juniper-led aroma with heavy notes of sea salt and a touch of spice, and the surprising depth of flavour which is not overpowering in its savouriness. This London Dry Gin is perfect for sipping or as a base for cocktails.

Shetland Reel Gin - Simmer

Simmer is a refreshing aromatic gin created in celebration of Shetland’s long summer twilight known as the Simmer Dim, and launched for World Gin Day. Our third core gin, after Original and Ocean Sent, it is bottled at 49% abv and was launched in June 2016.

The long summer days and lasting amber skies at sunset influence the eight botanicals in our recipe including orange peel, juniper, liquorice root and caraway seed.

The orange, caraway seed and liquoriceroot give a delicate orange peel aroma and slight aniseed, bitter sweet orange and juniper flavour, with a sweet lasting finish.

Shetland Reel Gin - Filska

Filska was originally created as a Special Edition for the Craft Gin Club in November 2018. It was launched UK-wide early summer 2019 and was bottled at 40% abv.

The local Shetland dialect has Nordic and Scottish roots and Filska means high-spirited and flighty, which was the inspiration for this citrussy, zesty red grapefruit gin!

A citrus-led, well-balanced gin with just 8 botanicals, where the aromatic peels and filtered juice are bound together by the warmth of cinnamon and flavour fixative orris root.

Shetland Reel Gin - Up Helly Aa

Each year to celebrate the Viking fire festival of Up Helly Aa we produce a limited-edition, cask aged, navy strength gin that encapsulates the true spirit of such a unique event.

The 2019 edition which was aged in a cask which had once held sherry and this contributed massively to the colour and flavour.

The nose has juniper and citrus followed by a lovely sweetness from the cask. On the palette there are notes of sherry, sweet citrus and spices and with tonic it takes on a fizzy sherbet quality that pairs with grapefruit peel.

Shetland Reel Gin - Wild Fire

Wild Fire is a collaboration between best selling author Ann Cleeves and Shetland Distillery Company to celebrate the eighth and final book of the “Shetland” series. Launched in September 2018 and bottled at 40% abv.

Tasted neat, there are notes of warming cinnamon and sweet orange that linger on the palate. The long finish has an aromatic spice with a touch of heat from dried red chillies.

Wild Fire pairs beautifully with premium tonic softening the heat from the spices and lifting the sweet citrus notes of the sorrel and orange peel.
